Love One Another Capital Campaign 2021

St. Alphonsus, Greendale

Our Parish Roots:

We were established in 1938, a mission parish of 230 members. We worshipped in downtown Greendale, using the current Middle School building. From our earliest days, we have been a strong force for good, known for our Food Pantry. Our first Church was built in 1950. In 1985, our growing parish needed a new, larger church. By 2003, parish needs for space and accessibility led us to expand further. We built a Community Room, Gathering Space, and weekday Chapel and redesigned the Parish & School areas. In 2011, the Church suffered a Christmas Eve fire and used the Community Room for Mass. A parish campaign undertaken from 2016-2019, enabled us to pay off our debts, build a brand new Parish House, create a multi-purpose room, and renovate school bathrooms. In January 2020, we burnt our mortgage, and celebrated our extraordinary success.
We are proud to be a welcoming parish. From our earliest days, we have developed active lay leaders— engaged in service to the parish and the world - at- large. Our 2,300 registered families aim to live our Mission Statement: “We are a vibrant Catholic community, striving to emulate Christ through the sacraments and send forth disciples to minister to the world.”

Our Share

Through much prayer, planning, and conversation, we have identified our greatest needs and initiatives to strengthen our mission and vision for years to come. Our share of the funds raised will be used for outreach to the poor, enhance our parish mission and ministry, refresh school and parish campus and capital improvements.

Our first priority in this campaign is to provide funds our parish can distribute to local and international organizations serving the poor and marginalized.

To enhance our celebration of the Eucharist, we will renovate the sanctuary area of the church, including expanding its size and adding a permanent altar, ambo, and tabernacle. With the renovation, we will also find ways to enhance the church’s current sound system and install a Hearing Loop. We will also replace the worn-out carpeting in the Gathering Space and the Community room and upgrade the audio/visual equipment. Lastly, funds will go towards resources for future Christian Formation program needs for students from 5K through Confirmation.

Our 73 year old campus has a number of much needed repairs. Our school kitchen’s dishwasher is over 50 years old, and is used by the school lunch program and other parish events. Funds raised will go towards the purchase of a more energy-efficient model. The school’s flooring and terazzo tiling needs to be restored to its original state, improving the safety and appearance of the facility. The main church parking lot will be resealed, while the remaining north lot will be completely replaced.

We know that there will be ongoing needs for both the facilities and equipment. This effort intends to increase that fund so that we are financially ready to address any major mechanical failures or facility repairs that arise.
