Our Lady of Good Hope

Our Parish Roots

In February 1950, it was announced to 78 men and women that Archbishop Moses E. Kiley had approved the organization of a new parish that would be developed on a ten-acre tract of land on the southeast corner of North 41st Street and West Good Hope Road located in the town of Granville. Father Joseph Fischer was appointed Spiritual Leader and then first pastor as the parish was incorporated on April 2, 1952. Through the dedication, donations, prayers, and hard work of many volunteers the new Catholic Church of Our Lady of Good Hope was blessed and dedicated on May 3, 1953. After that a rectory, school, and convent were also built.

The groundbreaking for the current church was in August 1967. The cornerstone was blessed and put in place in the fall of 1968 and in April 1969 Archbishop Cousins blessed and dedicated the beautiful new church. The people of Our Lady of Good Hope continue to live out Father Fischer’s favorite slogan, “The Charity of Christ urges on.” They pride themselves in prayerful liturgies, social justice, education efforts, and care for the needy and elderly. The parishioners give witness to the Gospel through faithfulness and generosity as they live out the parish mission: Called by Christ, we worship together and serve the world.

We are blessed to have committed parishioners at Our Lady of Good Hope. We need to be good stewards of our community and parish, and thus, we wish to use our share of the campaign funds to invest in capital repairs and renovations. Some potential projects include but are not limited to, development of a Parish Center in our lower level, improvements to our parking lot and repair of our convent roof. Additionally, Love One Another funds will be used to support projects identified through our revised strategic plan.

  Outreach and Evangelization-$56,000

As Catholics it is our duty to minister the needs of our community of faith. Utilizing funds from the Love One Another campaign, we will expand our community engagment through the proposed Parish Life Center and enhance ministry opportunities for our senior population.
