St. Benedict, Fontana

Our Parish Roots

St. Benedict has a long history in Fontana, Wisconsin from its founding in 1915. For over a hundred years it has served the communities of Southeast Wisconsin. It began initially as a mission church associated with St. Catherine Parish in Sharon until the 1950s, when it officially received a decree as a parish by the Milwaukee Archdiocese.

In 1960, construction began on the current church, which was completed one year later on the Feast of St. Benedict.  Today, St. Benedicts serves 600 parish families year round, increasing to almost 1,000 families in the summer time.

St. Benedict is a fixture in the greater Fontana area, gathering both seasonal and full time residents from the community to our fish fries and pancake breakfasts and supporting the Open Arms Free Clinic. As a parish, we recognize that in doing God’s work, it is God’s kingdom we are building, not our own, and that in everything and toward everyone, our attitude must be that of Christ’s.

  Capital improvements - $355,000

We have been blessed with wonderful buildings where we can come together as a parish family to celebrate the Eucharist, pray and continue God’s work in and around Fontana. In order to continue to be good stewards of our house of worship, we will use the money raised from the campaign to invest in a number of capital improvements to our campus. This includes projects to our parish building including a new roof, reinforcing the windows, repairing flooring, updating ventilation, as well as installing new A/V equipment to be used during Mass. Additionally, we will repave our parking lot and install a new parish sign to increase the splendor of the church and campus as a whole.

  Supporting human concerns - $34,887

Our St. Vincent dePaul Society is part of an international Catholic lay organization that offers person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in our area. Funds raised will be used to offer annual support to the society and their work in the community. Additionally, funds raised will be offered to our parish’s Human Concerns Committee which discerns needs of persons in the parish and the wider community and identifies resources to meet those needs enlisting the active cooperation of parish members.

  Education and outreach - $61,000

Evangelization, education and outreach are areas of growth for our parish. Funds raised will go towards investing in workshops and speakers for all parishioners and continued education for our parish staff. We will also expand our outreach to the residents of Fontana, Walworth, and Williams Bay with regular mailings to maintain growth and increase evangelization in our community.
