St. Agnes, Butler
Love One Another Capital Campaign 2021

St. Agnes, Butler

Our Parish Roots:

From our parish’s humble beginnings over 100 years ago, stewardship has played a critical role in the strength of our parish. Our first stewards, George and Jennie Clarke, donated land for the new church, and St. Agnes was chosen as its patroness in honor of their eldest daughter, Agnes. The permanent brick building was dedicated on Dec. 19, 1915. While construction began, a barracks church was erected to serve the 30-40 parishioners, and the school classes were held in a local hotel.

Between 1948 and 1951, St. Agnes doubled in size. School enrollment increased from 235 in 1951 to nearly 1,000 in 1963, requiring an ambitious building program to accommodate the growing congregation. The original brick church was razed in 1979 to erect a parish activity center and gym. Parishioners’ gifts of time, talent and treasure helped ensure that St. Agnes would thrive and continue to serve Catholic needs in Butler and the surrounding area.

We celebrated our centennial in 2015 and renewed our commitment to welcoming and serving the residents of Butler, Brookfield, Menomonee Falls, Milwaukee, Wauwatosa and beyond.

  BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS - $471,693

St. Agnes has been blessed by those who came before us by providing the buildings our parish calls home today. We need to continue in their steps to be good stewards of what we have and invest in it for generations to come. Therefore, the majority of funds raised will be used for necessary improvements to replace the bank of windows on the Fairmount side above Kemp Hall. This upgrade is necessary so that we can maintain the integrity of the building structure and continue to properly serve the students. Remaining funds will be used toward bathroom upgrades, gym bleachers, parish and school security, new church carpeting, rectory renovations, and miscellaneous upgrades and repairs.

  MISSION & MINISTRIES - $67,300

Our convent is currently being restored and once that is complete, we intend to utilize the chapel for adoration and prayer meetings. The rest of the convent building will be used for small-group activities, prayer and study groups; as a resource center, and could possibly be rented as a retreat house in the future. The funds designated for this cause will be for a new roof and boiler. Remaining funds will be used for church technology and Christian Formation.
