St. Francis Xavier, Brighton

Our Parish Roots:

The St. Francis Xavier community started in 1838 by early Irish Catholic setters. The Parish was originally established as St. Patrick in 1845 and served by three traveling priests from Milwaukee.

In 1883, the original frame church was destroyed by a tornado and the current masonry church was rebuilt under the leadership of Fr. Etschmann. When there were heated disagreements between Irish and German parishioners about what to name the rebuilt church, Fr. Etschmann offered a compromise to rename the parish after his patron saint: St. Francis Xavier.

The Kenosha-Racine County Line Catholic Parishes are a collaboration of four nearby parishes within the Archdiocese of Milwaukee who work together to serve God and our neighbors. We are made up of St. Francis Xavier and St. John the Baptist in Kenosha County and St. Mary of the Assumption and St. Robert Bellarmine in Racine County. We are happy you are here with us.
